Project Description

This building, belonging to the new Trade Fair Center Stuttgart is a combination of a light and efficient parking garage with an efficient bridge structure, spanning across the highway “A8” at the Stuttgart Trade Fair and the Airport Stuttgart.

The intention of the competition design was to execute the main load-bearing girders located at the façade of the parking as a suspension-bridge system using multiple locked-coil ropes with parabolic geometry.

Later in the design process, the cable system was replaced by a conventional steel truss. Furthermore, the originally three intended bridges were reduced to a total number of two.
