Obermenzing School Center - Extension of the Grandlschule Munich

Project Description

New construction of an elementary and secondary school, and triple sports hall, as well as the renovation and modernization of the main building from 1911 on the site at Grandlstrasse. Except for the main building from 1911, which is worth preserving, all parts of the building were replaced by new buildings.
The facility consists of a four-class elementary school and a three-class secondary school, each with a learning house concept. A cafeteria and a break hall are provided in the secondary school building and a triple sports hall with a grandstand for 150 people is also included.
In the existing building, it was necessary among other things, to update the fire protection by the renewal of the individual ceiling panels, integration of the caretaker’s apartment, and implementing measures for the connection to the new building. An elevator was installed in the area of the transition to the new building. Extensive underpinning measures using HDI were used to completely lower the floor slab. Both the elevator area and the connection to the new building were waterproofed.
The elementary and secondary school was constructed in reinforced concrete with flat slabs supported by columns and walls. The triple sports hall is spanned by a steel structure with a free span of 30 m. The basement, which is connected across all 3 new parts of the building, was designed as a waterproof construction.
